why all this flash flooding??

Flash flooding used to be something Zagi heard about occaisionally and never really understood. Now it seems flash floods are an everyday occurrence. A flash flood can happen over a few minutes or over several hours when rainfall exceeds the ability of the land to absorb it. It can raise water levels to over 30 feet and move boulders, houses, cars, trees, etc. and destroy the landscape, roads, bridges, and take lives. Flash floods are now the number 1 weather related killer in the US. Why is this happening? While there are numerous reasons for the increase in flash flooding, we know that climate change is a major factor. When the earth warms, and temperatures rise, weather patterns change and the land dries up in certain places and floods in other places. When the land dries and forests die and dry out, fires start easily and rage quickly leaving the earth bare and the soil hydrophobic. Water can't soak into the ground...it just runs off.....a prime target for flash flooding. All over the world burn scars are prone to flash flooding for years after a fire has burned there. Zagi has seen this first hand in many places in Colorado. So how do we stop this? Your thoughts?
